Description
Occhipinti Vino di Contrada Fossa di Lupo is an organic single varietal Frappato made by Arianna Occhipinti in south eastern Sicily, Italy. Fossa di Lupo is a historic contrada looking towards the Iblei Mountains, with mostly sandy soils in reddish tones and a significant amount of limestone rock at the surface. Wines from this site are typically fruity but austere, with marked acidity, and that tension defines the bottling. The sand gives perfume and fine tannins, while the surface limestone drives the freshness and savoury backbone. The grapes are hand picked and ferment spontaneously with native yeasts, then age in seasoned wood that lends gentle structure without overlaying the delicate fruit with oak. Frappato is pale and aromatic by nature, and this is no exception. Expect a translucent ruby colour and a nose of pomegranate, red cherry and wild rose, with a stony, earthy edge. The palate is light to medium bodied and taut, with red currant and cranberry fruit, fine grainy tannins, high acidity and a long, mineral finish. Serve lightly chilled at 14 to 15 degrees. A good match for roast chicken, grilled pork and tomato led dishes.
