Description
Occhipinti SP68 Bianco is made by Arianna Occhipinti in south east Sicily, near Vittoria, from Albanello and Moscato d'Alessandria. The wine is named after the Strada Provinciale 68, the road that gives the range its identity, and the fruit is grown organically and biodynamically. This corner of Sicily has sandy, calcareous red soils and a warm, sunny climate tempered by sea breezes, which lets the grapes ripen fully while keeping freshness. The Moscato d'Alessandria brings the aromatic, floral and musky side of the blend, while Albanello adds structure and a citrus core. The wine is made in a natural, low intervention style, dry and unoaked, so the emphasis is on the grape aromatics and a slightly textured, grippy palate rather than polish. The colour is bright straw with a faint golden cast. The nose is lightly aromatic, with white peach, apricot and melon lifted by elderflower, white flowers and a musky rose note from the Muscat. The palate is dry with gentle grip, ripe stone fruit and a fresh, savoury finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It works with grilled fish, shellfish, vegetable dishes and lightly spiced food where the aromatics complement the seasoning.
