O Luar do Sil is a lees aged Godello from Valdeorras, made by Pago de los Capellanes in Galicia. Time on lees builds a complex, textured white with ripe stone fruit, orchard fruit and a fresh mineral core.
Description
O Luar do Sil Godello sobre lias is made in Seadur, in the D.O. Valdeorras in eastern Galicia, by the Rodero Villa family of Pago de los Capellanes. They founded this dedicated white wine project in 2014 to make Godello in their own style: a complex, intense wine built to age. Valdeorras is the spiritual home of Godello, a grape that gives more weight and ripe stone fruit than the region's lighter varieties while keeping a firm mineral line from the slate and granite soils and the cool, hilly climate. This wine is aged on its lees. Extended lees contact releases mannoproteins that thicken the texture and add a savoury, nutty depth, rounding the palate while the acidity keeps it fresh. The result is a fuller, more complex white than a simple young example. The colour is bright straw gold. The nose shows ripe white peach, pear and apricot over white flowers and a light nutty note. The palate is textured and balanced, with orchard and stone fruit, a fresh mineral core and a long finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white glass. Its weight suits richer fish and poultry.
