O Gran Mein I Lustro 2019

Ribeiro is one of Galicia's oldest wine regions, in north-west Spain, and Meín is among its earliest documented villages. O Gran Mein I Lustro is a blend of native white grapes led by Albariño and Godello, grown on the granite and slate slopes of the river valleys. The Atlantic influence and altitude keep the climate cool and the acidity high, while the granitic soils give the wine a fine, stony minerality that runs through the palate. The blend plays to each grape's strength: Albariño brings citrus and salinity, Godello adds body and a subtle waxy texture. The wine ages for twelve months, which softens the youthful edge and adds a light savoury note and honeyed depth without masking the fresh fruit. The colour is bright straw. The nose is subtle and layered, with green apple, lemon and white flowers over a floral honey note. The palate is dry and precise, the fruit framed by firm acidity and a mineral, faintly saline finish that is typical of the region. There is a nutty, almond note on the close from the ageing. Serve at 10 to 12C.
