Description
O Gran Meín Castes Brancas comes from the Viña Meín estate in D.O. Ribeiro, in the green interior of Galicia. This is the Atlantic edge of Spain, with a cool damp climate and granite and slate subsoils that push acidity and a stony freshness through the fruit. The wine is a field blend built around Treixadura, filled out by Albariño, Torrontés, Caíño Blanco, Godello, Lado and Loureira Blanca, several of them local varieties that carry the character of the region. Fermentation is in stainless steel to keep the aromatics clean, and the wine then spends twelve months on its fine lees in tank. That lees contact releases mannoproteins that broaden the texture and add a soft, savoury weight without any oak, while the vats hold the primary fruit and floral tone. The colour is pale straw. The nose leads with white peach, pear and white flowers over a lemony citrus edge. The palate is dry and mineral, with green apple acidity and a saline, faintly herbal finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.

Additional information
Pairs with clams, mussels and grilled prawns, where the saline edge stands in for a squeeze of lemon. It also suits baked white fish, green salads with citrus dressing and fresh goat cheese.
