Quinta do Noval is a benchmark Douro house with more than three centuries of experience, sited on the left bank of the Pinhao river. This Fine White Port is made from a blend of white Douro varieties including Codega, Gouveio, Malvasia, Rabigato and Viosinho grown on the schist terraces of the valley, where the slate soil radiates heat and the vines ripen fully. The grapes are fermented and fortified with grape spirit, the same method as red Port, to leave a gentle sweetness, then aged in cask where limited oxidative contact develops a golden colour and nutty depth. The colour is golden caramel. The nose is intensely floral over honey and orange peel. The palate is sweet and tasty, silky in texture, with hints of hazelnut and a long, pleasant finish. It is versatile, drunk well chilled as an aperitif or served long over ice with tonic and a twist of citrus in the Porto style. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a tumbler or white wine glass. It also suits salted nuts and fruit based desserts.
