A 13 Year Old single cask of Ten Cane pot still Trinidad, bottled at full strength by Nobilis, layering tropical fruit, cherry and sandalwood over dried fruit and dark chocolate, with a faintly medicinal lift and a fruity, toasted, oaky finish.
Description
Trinidad is best known for clean column still rum, so a pot still bottling like this Ten Cane stands a little apart. Nobilis selected a single 2012 cask, aged thirteen years and offered at its natural 53.7%, a vintage and proof that keep the fruit forward without tipping into heat.
Distilled from molasses on a pot still and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it opens on tropical fruit, ripe cherry and a curl of sandalwood, with a soft medicinal note underneath. The palate turns to dried fruit, red berries and chocolate, finishing fruity and woody with toasted oak. Full strength gives it clarity and grip while the pot still character adds a floral, slightly funky edge rarely seen from the island, rewarding a patient, unhurried pour.
