A seventeen year old Long Pond ITP from Nobilis at a big 69.5%, tropical fruit, coconut and caramel over roasted wood with a dry, tannic bite and a petrol edged finish, creamy and surprisingly tame on funk for the strength.
Description
Nobilis Rum bottled this Long Pond ITP from the 2007 vintage as a single cask at a substantial 69.5%. ITP is one of the estate's more restrained marques, and after thirteen years of tropical ageing plus a further continental spell, it lands as a rich, oak driven Jamaican that stays relatively calm on funk despite the strength, suiting drinkers who lean toward bourbon style depth.
Molasses fermentation and double retort pot distillation set up the fruit, and the long, two stage maturation in ex-bourbon oak brings tropical fruit, coconut, caramel and roasted wood. The palate is intense and creamy with caramel and tropical fruit over the barrel, finishing dry and tannic with coconut, dark chocolate and a petrol note. The proof is well handled, the texture full. This is a fruit forward, oak heavy Long Pond for drinkers who want power and richness more than wild esters.
