Nobilis Rum bottled this single cask Port Mourant from 2012, off the double wooden pot still, with 9 years of age. Port Mourant is the icon of Guyana, normally the heaviest and oiliest of the stills, but caught young here it shows a fresher, more mineral side rather than its full dark weight.
Matured in Port casks and bottled unsweetened at 64.7%, it leads with fresh apple, tropical fruit and a soy-like caramel note, with grass, mint and spice over a salty, roasted edge. The youth and high proof give it real heat and some metallic, immature corners, with the licorice and pencil signature only beginning to emerge. This is a punchy, raw young Port Mourant for drinkers who enjoy the still at full strength and do not mind youthful edges, helped by air and water.
