Nobilis Diamond No. 21B EHP 2012

Nobilis bottled this single cask of EHP marque from the Diamond estate, a Demerara Distillers spirit recreated on the column still that gives Guyana its cleaner, brighter cut. Drawn unsweetened at a hefty 67.5 percent and still young at nine years, it is built for drinkers who like their rum at full proof and a little untamed.

Matured in ex bourbon, the molasses spirit shows caramel, vanilla and yellow fruit on the nose, then a fruity, spicy palate of citrus, caramel and pear, closing woody with licorice, nuts and coffee. The youth and strength bring some sharp edges and clear alcohol bite, which is part of the appeal for fans of punchy young Demerara. This suits drinkers already at home with cask strength single casks who want character and heat over polish, best opened up with a little water.
