Nobilis Caroni HTR 1998

Nobilis Rum bottle this Caroni single cask from the 1998 vintage, drawing on the closed Trinidad distillery whose finite, tropically aged casks Velier turned into legend. At twenty-four years, unsweetened and a towering 66%, it is heavy Caroni delivered at full force, with twenty-four years of wood-driven character behind it.

The molasses spirit, matured in ex-bourbon oak in the heavy marque, hits hard from the start with tar, leather, wood and rubber on the nose. The palate is dense with tobacco, tar, rubber and dry spice, before dark and tropical fruit emerge underneath, and the finish stays woody and smoky with tobacco and oak. This is the full industrial Caroni package at cask strength, oily and intense, the archetypal petrol-and-rubber profile over deep, charred oak. It is built for slow, attentive sipping by drinkers already at home with the biggest, dirtiest expressions of the distillery.
