Nobilis Beenleigh No. 28 2007

Nobilis bottled this 2007 vintage Beenleigh as a single cask, drawing on one of Australia's oldest registered distilleries for a fifteen year old pot still rum that carries real weight. At 67.2% and certified unsweetened, it is aimed squarely at drinkers who already chase dry, high strength single casks and want something with a clear regional accent rather than a safe one.

The pot still distillate gives body and a distinctive orchard fruit signature, pear and crisp apple alongside dried fruit, molasses and pear again on a long finish. Maturation in ex-bourbon casks layers in vanilla, nougat and warm baking spice, while the strength stays surprisingly well integrated for the proof. A short rest in the glass and a careful drop of water open it up; the result is creamy and intense without any added sweetness propping it up, a rum that rewards patience from those comfortable at cask strength.
