Description
No Name N° 2 CB (Compass Box) is a blended malt Scotch from Compass Box. It marries single malts from more than one distillery, Caol Ila among them. Long fermentations build the fruity, citrus notes that sit beneath the smoke.
The Caol Ila within lends a clean, lemony Islay smoke rather than a heavy tarry one. Maturation in an Oloroso cask laid dried fruit over the make. Time in oak deepens the oily body while the maritime smoke stays bright. The clean spirit shows the cask clearly, which is why it suits so many wood types. Years in oak round the smoke, the peat mellowing while the brine stays. The clean, oily spirit takes cask flavour well while holding its citrus and smoke. Maturation by the sea gives the malt its mineral, sea spray character. Active wood frames the smoke without smothering the citrus beneath. Its peated character is built on malt smoked to a medium level of phenols.
At 48.9% without water it is rich and full. A coastal peat smoke runs through it, with lemon, brine and a soft oil over a sweet fruit. A maritime salt and a lemon lift run through it. A long maritime smoke closes it. A characterful smoky blended malt Scotch.
