Description
Gebruder Nittnaus is a family winery in Gols, in the Austrian region of Burgenland, farmed biodynamically. Burgenland is best known for its reds, but its warm continental climate and the moderating presence of Lake Neusiedl also suit dry whites. Riesling here is picked ripe but retains firm acidity thanks to cool nights that slow sugar accumulation and preserve freshness. Biodynamic farming, which treats the vineyard as a single living system, keeps the soils active and the fruit clearly defined. The wine is fermented and raised in stainless steel rather than oak, a choice that locks in primary fruit and the grape's mineral character with no woody influence. The result is bright and unadorned. The colour is pale straw. The nose is fresh and direct, with lime, green apple, white peach and a stony mineral note. The palate is dry and taut, driven by clean acidity that carries a long, citrus-edged finish. This is a versatile food white and a good aperitif. Serve chilled at 9 to 11 degrees in a standard white glass.
