Nikka The Grain Whisky is a no age statement blended grain from Nikka, released in 2023 for the global market at cask strength of 48%. It draws on grain whisky from two sites: the Coffey stills at the Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture and the Nishinomiya distillery, matured in a combination of refill hogsheads and new American oak casks.
Nikka's Coffey stills at Miyagikyo produce a softer, sweeter grain spirit than pot-still malt, and Nishinomiya contributes its own smooth grain character to the vatting. New American oak adds vanilla and a distinctive coconut and caramel note that new wood typically imparts to grain whisky, while the refill hogsheads provide a gentler background influence. At 48% and bottled at cask strength, the expression shows the full texture and weight of the grain base, an atypical full-strength grain release that highlights a less familiar side of Nikka's production.
