Nikka 40 Years Old

Nikka 40 Years Old is a 40 year old blended malt from Nikka, drawing only on malt whisky from the Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido and the Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture, with no grain component. It was released as an event bottling at 43% and matured in Ex-Bourbon casks over four decades.

Blended malts at this age are rare in Japanese whisky: four decades in cask allow the robust, peaty character of Yoichi and the lighter, fruitier Miyagikyo malt to converge on a shared depth that neither would reach alone. Ex-Bourbon maturation over such an extended period builds layers of vanilla, dried fruit and old oak, with the distinctive house characters of both distilleries softened and integrated by time. As a blended malt, it reflects Nikka's heritage of marrying contrasting styles into a coherent and considered whole.
