Description
Niigata Kameda Distillery sits in Niigata Prefecture on Japan's Sea of Japan coast, a small independent house whose Ohtani release represents one of its earliest matured single malts. Bottled in 2025 at just three years of age, the whisky is drawn at cask strength, giving an unfiltered view of what the distillery is building in its formative years.
A first-fill bourbon barrel is the sole maturation vessel here, a choice that keeps the new make's character front and centre while American oak layers in vanilla, orchard fruit and a light toasty grain note. At 50% the texture carries real weight for its age, and the youth of the spirit comes through as a lively, cereal-driven freshness that is typical of the house style at this early stage.
