Description
Niepoort Tiara Branco is a white from DOC Douro made by the Niepoort family, in business since 1842 and now led by Dirk Niepoort. It blends the traditional Douro white grapes Codega, Donzelinho and Rabigato from high-altitude vineyards, where the elevation is key: the Douro is a hot region, but planting on cooler upper slopes and the wide gap between warm days and cold nights let these grapes ripen slowly and keep their acidity and delicacy. The schist soils drain freely and drive the vines deep, giving the wine its mineral spine. It is aged for twelve months on its lees, which builds a fine creamy texture and savoury depth while keeping the fruit fresh, with careful, gentle handling in the cellar throughout. The colour is pale golden yellow. The nose is fresh and floral, with white peach, pear and lemon over white flowers and a mineral, faintly saline note. The palate is dry and precise at 12.5 percent alcohol, the fruit lifted by bright acidity and a lees-derived texture that carries a long, clean finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
