Bodegas Avelino Vegas makes this pale Castilla y León rosé from Prieto Picudo, a local León variety. Pale salmon pink, it is fresh and youthful, with white fruit, strawberry and a clean citrus lift built for early drinking.
Description
Nicte Rosa Pálido comes from Bodegas Avelino Vegas, a family winery based at Santiuste de San Juan Bautista in Segovia that works across several Castilian denominations. This rosé is made from Prieto Picudo, a red variety native to the province of León that holds good acidity and gives pale, fresh pink wines. The vineyards sit on the high Castilian plateau, where a broadly Mediterranean climate is moderated by altitude and a wide swing between day and night temperatures. That diurnal range slows ripening and locks in the natural acidity that gives the wine its freshness and its delicate colour. The grapes are pressed gently to draw a pale juice, and a cool fermentation keeps the primary aromatics intact in a young, unoaked style. The wine shows a pale pink hue with salmon glints and a nose of white fruit, strawberry and white flowers. On the palate it is light, dry and crisp, with red berry and pear fruit, a clean citrus line and a fresh, easy finish. Serve it well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass as an aperitif or with light summer food.
