Description
Nicolás Tricó is the personal project of José Antonio López, a single variety Albariño made in Rías Baixas, in Galicia. The name comes from the Galician word for a late, cherished child, and the wine is a tribute to his family and their surroundings. This is a riper, more textured take on Albariño, reaching 14 per cent, and the character reflects both the vintage and the region's Atlantic setting. The cool, wet climate and sea breezes hold onto the acidity even in a warmer year, while the granite soils of the area drain well and give the wine a stony, saline backbone. The farming is done with respect for the land. Fermentation in stainless steel keeps the fruit and coastal character clear, and the extra ripeness gives more weight than a lighter Albariño. The colour is pale gold with green glints. The nose shows white peach, apricot and melon with lemon and a sea salt note. The palate is fuller and dry, the acidity keeping the riper fruit fresh, the finish long and saline. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass.

Additional information
The extra body handles richer seafood, so pour it with scallops, lobster or grilled octopus. It also stands up to oily fish such as tuna or grilled mackerel, and to hake in a green sauce. Serve chilled but not ice cold, so the weight and fruit come through.
