Description
Stinzatu is the work of Nicolas Mariotti Bindi, one of the most talked about young winemakers in Corsica and a champion of responsible viticulture and native grapes. The wine is built on two of the island's signature varieties, Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu, farmed organically and made with minimal intervention. Corsica is a mountainous island in the Mediterranean, and its granite and schist soils combined with sea breezes and altitude give wines a saline freshness and a wild herbal character known locally as maquis. This bottling is deliberately light, finishing at just 10 percent alcohol, which keeps it delicate and easy to drink. Made in a natural style, with little or no added sulphur and native yeast fermentation, it leads with primary fruit rather than oak or technical polish. The wine is pale and bright, with aromas of raspberry, strawberry and red cherry lifted by citrus peel, dried Mediterranean herbs and a faint floral note. The palate is dry, light and savoury, with a saline, mineral finish typical of island wines. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
