Description
Nicolas Mariotti Bindi returned to his native Corsica to make wine, farming clay and limestone slopes on the island. Mursaglia is Vermentino, the Mediterranean white grape known here and across the region, made naturally and organically with a prolonged ageing before release. Corsica's granite and limestone soils, sea breezes and long sunlight give Vermentino its blend of ripeness and salinity, with the maritime setting lending a herbal, briny edge the locals call the scent of the maquis. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and raised in stainless steel, an inert vessel that keeps the fruit clean and lets extended lees contact add texture and a subtle savoury depth while the wine holds its freshness. Low intervention means minimal additions and light or no filtration. Expect a straw gold colour with green reflections, a nose of lemon, green apple, pear and wild herbs, and a palate that is dry and textured with a saline, faintly bitter almond finish typical of the grape. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees.
