Description
Nicolas Mariotti Bindi makes this Mursaglia red in Corsica from Niellucciu, the island's signature grape, which shares its genetics with Tuscan Sangiovese. Bindi farms at Oletta near Cap Corse, working organically and along natural lines, with no added yeasts and minimal handling. The vines grow on clay and limestone slopes under a hot, dry Mediterranean climate cooled by sea breezes and the maquis scrub that scents the hillsides. Niellucciu gives firm acidity and savoury tannin, and this cuvée is aged for around 24 months in oak barrels, a long élevage that resolves the tannins and adds depth while the fruit holds its freshness. The wine is bright ruby, marked by garrigue and wild herbs over red and black cherry, dried fig and a peppery, leathery edge, with structured tannins and a long, savoury finish. The natural winemaking gives it energy and grip. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted ahead, with roast lamb, herb crusted beef or aged hard cheese.
