Description
Nicolas Mariotti Bindi gave up law in Paris to return to Corsica and make wine, and today farms 15 hectares on north facing clay and limestone slopes. Albore is Vermentino made in a fresh, early drinking style, farmed naturally and organically. The north facing aspect is deliberate on a warm Mediterranean island, keeping the fruit cooler and slowing ripening so the wine holds acidity and aromatic detail rather than turning heavy. Clay and limestone soils give structure and a mineral line, while sea breezes carry the herbal, saline character of the surrounding scrub into the fruit. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and raised for a few months in stainless steel, an inert vessel that preserves the fruit and salinity, with lees contact lending a little texture. Low intervention means native ferments and minimal additions. Expect a pale yellow colour with green highlights, a fresh nose of lemon, green apple, pear and white flowers over wild herbs, and a palate that is dry, light and mineral with a clean, saline finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees.
