Description
Nelín is the white counterpart to Clos Mogador, the Priorat estate built by René Barbier, and it is blended from Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo. The grapes come from four small parcels planted in llicorella, the region's decomposed slate, at 350 to 500 metres, where thin soils force the roots deep and the altitude widens the day to night temperature swing, holding acidity in a warm Mediterranean climate. The wine spends twelve months in large foudres followed by six months in stainless steel. Extended contact with the fine lees and the slow oxygen exchange through the old wood build body and a rounded texture without adding obvious oak, while malolactic softening broadens the mid palate. Expect a pale gold colour and a nose of white peach, ripe pear and honey over almond and beeswax. The palate is broad and mineral, the slate lending a savoury, saline grip that carries a long finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a full white glass. It suits richer fish, roast poultry and shellfish in butter.
