Neisson Tatanka 2023

Neisson is a small family distillery founded in 1931 and a long-standing favourite among agricole drinkers, who tend to hold the house in high regard, and this Tatanka is an unaged blanc from a 2023 vintage. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice on a creole column under the Martinique AOC, it is white rum in the purest agricole sense, all about cane and freshness.

The nose is classic Neisson blanc: agricole through and through, fresh, vegetal and grassy. The palate softens that snap with a floral, sweet, soft sugarcane character, and the finish stays oily and grassy over sugar-cane sap. There is a roundness here that keeps the 55% strength approachable rather than fierce. Bottled dry with no added sugar, it is a clean, expressive blanc that shows why the house is so well regarded, equally at home sipped neat by the curious or built into a textbook Ti' Punch where its cane purity shines.
