A single-cask Neisson straight from the barrel, fresh cane juice aged six tropical years in ex-bourbon oak at a vivid 58.4%, woody and roasted with orange and citrus, finishing warm, woody and clove-spiced, dry and unsweetened.
Description
Neisson is a small, well-regarded family distillery in Martinique (1931), and this Straight from the Barrel No. 23 from the Chai Vevert is a single-cask vieux, a six year old distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice on a creole column and matured in ex-bourbon oak, bottled unsweetened at cask strength.
Six years of tropical ageing gives real oak depth, and the single-cask, full-proof bottling keeps everything concentrated. The nose is woody and roasted with orange and citrus, the palate stays woody and roasted with citrus and an agricole cane note, and the finish turns warm and woody with sugarcane and clove. At 58.4% it is full-bodied and intense, dry and spice-forward rather than sweet. A characterful single cask that shows Neisson's aged side at full strength.
