A single cask 2011 vieux from Neisson, the small family Martinique house, fresh cane juice spirit aged four years in ex-bourbon wood and bottled at 46%, young but tropically matured in the island’s dry agricole tradition.
Description
Neisson is a small, family run Martinique distillery founded in 1931 and a long standing favourite among agricole drinkers. Le Corsaire 2011 is made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses, drawn from a single ex-bourbon cask and aged around four years before bottling.
Tropical ageing works quickly, so even a young agricole shows good oak development. Expect the grassy, herbaceous Neisson core picking up vanilla, light baking spice and toasted oak from the bourbon wood, dry and spice forward rather than sweet. Bottled at 46% from one cask, it is built for neat sipping or a stirred agricole serve.
