A lightly oaked Neisson cuvee marking the distillery’s ninetieth year, fresh Martinique cane juice in ex-bourbon for around a year giving sugarcane, caramel and allspice over a floral, citrus core, dry and characterful at 49.2%.
Description
Neisson, the small well regarded family distillery in Martinique, released this Profil 62 to celebrate its ninetieth anniversary, a wood-aged cuvee made from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses. The bottling revisits an earlier release tied to a Paris merchant's own anniversary.
With around a year in ex-bourbon oak, it sits between blanc and vieux: a nose of sugarcane, citrus, flowers and a touch of wood, a palate of cane, caramel, allspice and vanilla, and a finish of caramel, cinnamon, wood and dried fruit. The light ageing leaves the fresh, floral cane character intact while adding a buttery, pastry-like sweetness from the cask. Bottled at cask strength, it carries that profile with presence but stays well integrated. There is no claimed added sugar. A characterful, lightly oaked agricole that drinks well neat for those who enjoy the Neisson house style.
