A Martinique cane-juice rum from Neisson rested in Japanese mizunara oak and bottled unsweetened at 47.6%, smooth and velvety with fresh sugar-cane, banana and citrus running into an oily, dry, gently exotic-oak finish.
Description
Neisson Mizunara Eleve Sous Bois Batch 3 2024 is a wood-rested agricole from Neisson, the small family distillery founded in 1931 and a longtime favourite among agricole drinkers in Martinique. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice on a creole column, this release rests the spirit in Japanese mizunara oak, an unusual choice that lends a softer, more aromatic wood character than standard bourbon barrels.
The nose is smooth and gentle, with fresh sugar-cane, banana and citrus over a light floral lift. The palate is oily, fresh and notably velvety, the mizunara rounding the grassy core without burying it, and the finish stays oily, dry and cane-driven. As an eleve sous bois it carries light oak influence rather than full vieux maturity, keeping it fresh and clean. Bottled unsweetened at 47.6%, it is a polished, easy-drinking expression of Neisson cane with a quiet exotic-oak twist, equally at home neat or lengthening a stirred agricole drink.
