A 15 year old Neisson from a 2000 Martinique vintage, complex and elegant with dry figs, leather, brown sugar and cinnamon over a dry, spicy palate, fresh-juice distilled and bottled unsweetened at 48%.
Description
Neisson is a small family distillery in Martinique, long admired by enthusiasts of the style, and this 15 Years Batch No. 2 draws on a 2000 vintage pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses. Bottled unsweetened in the AOC tradition, it shows what tropical ageing does to an agricole over a decade and a half in cask.
Column-distilled and matured in ex-bourbon oak, fifteen years of island heat have built genuine depth: brown sugar, leather, cinnamon and sugar-cane on the nose, then woody, leathery dried figs and oak across an elegant palate, finishing dry and spicy. The profile is fine and complex, leaning toward dried fruit and spice rather than sweetness, with the moderate strength giving it grace rather than force. At 48% it is a refined, mature agricole for slow sipping, the kind of bottle drinkers of older Martinique rum return to.
