Nannerl Alpenschnaps Zirbe is a stone pine liqueur from Nannerl, a family firm based at Anthering near Salzburg that has made spirits and beverage concentrates since 1975. Its key ingredient is the Swiss stone pine, or Zirbe, the fresh needles of this Alpine tree giving the liqueur its resinous character at 30% in a 200ml pocket bottle. A herbal backbone of mint, anise, wormwood, gentian and liquorice frames the pine.

The nose is intense pine wood with a resinous sweetness and a hint of vanilla, the palate mild and full bodied with a balance of sweetness, spicy pine and a fine herbal aroma, the finish long, warm and slightly resinous. This is above all a digestif, traditionally served slightly chilled or on ice after a hearty meal, its piney warmth cutting rich food. It pairs with game, mountain cheese and smoked dishes, and a measure brings an Alpine, resinous note to a stirred or warm winter drink.
