Description
Amahagan World Malt is a blended malt produced at Nagahama Distillery, a small pot-still house opened in 2016 in a brewpub on the shores of Lake Biwa in Shiga prefecture. The World labelling is honest: the vatting draws on Nagahama malt alongside whisky from other regions, and no claim is made to an only Japanese origin. This NAS expression is released for the global market at 47%.
Without a secondary cask finish, this bottling relies entirely on Ex-Bourbon maturation for its character. Bourbon barrels typically give Nagahama's spirit a lighter, cleaner direction: vanilla, fresh grain, a hint of orchard fruit and a soft, approachable sweetness. In the house style it sits at the more delicate end of the Amahagan range, letting the base distillate and the gentle impact of American oak speak without the added weight of sherry, wine or Japanese wood.
