Nagahama Amahagan World Malt

Amahagan World Malt is a blended malt from Nagahama Distillery, a small pot-still operation opened in 2016 in a brewpub on the shores of Lake Biwa in Shiga prefecture. The World labelling is deliberate: the vatting combines Nagahama's own malt with whisky sourced from other countries, reflecting a world-blend approach rather than a single Japanese provenance. This NAS expression was bottled in 2018 at 47% for global distribution.

The whisky matures entirely in Ex-Bourbon casks, which gives the house its characteristic leaning toward lighter, cleaner flavour. The noted citrus and vanilla sit centrally in the profile, supported by the gentle sweetness and soft grain character typical of bourbon barrel maturation. It is the more understated side of the Amahagan range, letting the fresh, clean distillery character speak directly without a cask finish.
