Description
Amahagan World Malt is a blended malt produced at Nagahama Distillery, a compact pot-still site opened in 2016 beside Lake Biwa in Shiga prefecture, run by the Nagahama Roman Beer brewpub. The World designation reflects the honest makeup of the liquid: Nagahama's own malt is vatted with imported whisky from other regions to build the blend, and origin is not restricted to Japan. This NAS expression is released for the global market at 47%.
The maturation route takes the whisky through Ex-Bourbon casks before a finishing period in Oloroso sherry wood. The bourbon base contributes vanilla and lighter cereal sweetness, while the sherry finish layers in dried fruit, dark toffee and a gentle nuttiness. The interplay of the two cask types produces a well-rounded and generously flavoured blended malt.
