A full-proof Thai single cask from Naga, distilled from molasses and bottled at 62.3%, trading on roasted wood, dark chocolate and coffee with dried-fruit depth, dry and intense and built for slow, attentive sipping.
Description
This 2011 Naga is a Thai rum from molasses, aged eleven years and bottled at cask strength, 62.3%, from a single barrel. Naga's Thai distillery has a small but devoted following, and this full-proof release leans into the darker, drier side of its character rather than anything sweet or soft.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows woody, roasted and spiced aromas, then a palate of dried fruit, coffee and dark chocolate over firm oak. The finish carries chocolate, coffee and brown sugar. At over 62% the alcohol is present but well folded into the roast and wood, so a few drops of water and some rest in the glass help it open. This is a pour for drinkers who already enjoy dry, wood-forward rums and want extra power and a darker, more roasted profile.
