A 15 year old TDL Angostura single cask from N. Kroger at cask strength 62.8 percent, with young wood, fruit, herbs and vanilla over a sweet, spicy core, an unsweetened 2007-vintage Trinidad bottling.
Description
N. Kroger released this Trinidad Distillers Limited single cask in its Wagemut line. TDL, the living Trinidad producer within the Angostura group, makes light column-still molasses rum, and this Angostura-sourced cask was bottled unsweetened at a hefty 62.8 percent. At 15 years from the 2007 vintage, it pairs that light base with serious proof.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows young wood, fruit, spice and vanilla on the nose, then a palate of spice, young wood, herbs and a clear sweetness, with plenty of vanilla through the close. There is a sweet, PX-like richness alongside fresh, open herbal notes that emerge once it breathes, atypical of the minty TDL register. The high proof brings real intensity that benefits from time in the glass. A bold, characterful Trinidad single cask for those who like their Angostura stock at full strength.
