N. Kröger Drink Syndikat Port Cask Rum

This Drink Syndikat release from German bottler N. Kröger takes a 13 year old Panamanian molasses rum and hands it over almost entirely to the Port cask. The base is the light, mellow Spanish style spirit that Panama is known for, but here the wine wood is the headline act, lending the rum its striking reddish colour and its berry led personality.

On the nose and palate it is all about Port, sweet red fruit, berries and red wine, with the cane spirit sitting well back behind the cask. This is closer to a fruity, wine soaked sipper than a rum that shows much of its own depth or body, and at a soft 42.1% it goes down very easily. Best understood honestly as a sweet, Port driven pour for drinkers who enjoy that wine cask fruit and do not mind the underlying rum taking a supporting role.
