Description
Mullineux & Leeu is one of the leading names in the Swartland, the warm dry region north of Cape Town. This single vineyard Chenin Blanc comes from decomposed Paardeberg granite, a deep, free draining soil that holds enough moisture to sustain the old vines through a hot growing season while the low fertility keeps yields small and concentration high. The vines average around forty years, which brings depth and balance to the fruit. Fermentation and ageing take place in barrel, using older wood that lends texture and a slow feed of oxygen rather than overt oak flavour, so the granite driven acidity and mineral character stay in the foreground. The colour is bright gold. The nose shows white peach, pear and lemon with a waxy, beeswax note and a clear flinty minerality that the producer ties directly to the granite. The palate is full and layered yet firmly structured, the ripe stone fruit carried by fresh acidity and a long, saline, mineral finish. Serve at around 11 to 12 degrees in a full white glass.

Additional information
Serve it with roast chicken, grilled swordfish or salmon, and pork dishes, where the weight and acidity meet the richness head on. The mineral, waxy character also flatters a nutty aged cheese such as Gruyère.
