Description
Muga was founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño in Haro, the heart of Rioja Alta, and remains one of the region's most respected family wineries, known for working in the traditional way. Muga Rosado is built mainly on Garnacha Tinta with a portion of the white grape Viura, drawn from the cooler, higher Rioja Alta vineyards where calcareous clay soils and altitude preserve acidity. The 2025 vintage came through particularly complex weather, and the wine is made by short skin contact to set a pale pink colour before fermentation, then aged four months on its lees. That lees ageing, where the spent yeast cells slowly break down and release mannoproteins, adds texture and a subtle savoury depth without masking the fruit. The colour is pale and bright. The nose is delicate and fresh, with red berries, white peach and a floral lift. The palate is crisp and balanced, carrying citrus and red fruit over a saline, mineral finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees.
