Muchada-Léclapart farm Palomino on the chalky albariza soils of Cádiz. This skin-contact white spends twelve months in used French oak, giving a fresh, saline orange wine with lemon, white peach and a fine chalky minerality.
Description
Muchada-Léclapart is a project in Cádiz, in Andalusia, born when Alejandro Muchada met the Champagne grower David Léclapart and turned to biodynamic farming. The grapes are Palomino, the same variety behind Sherry, grown on albariza, the bright white chalk soil that holds winter rain deep in the subsoil and reflects sunlight back into the canopy under the strong southern sun. Vibrations is a light skin-contact white rather than a deeply tannic one, with a short maceration that lifts texture and aromatics without heavy grip. It then spends twelve months in used French oak barrels, a neutral vessel chosen for slow oxygen exchange and lees contact rather than oak flavour, which adds breadth while keeping the wine fresh. The colour is pale gold with a faint amber tint. The nose shows lemon, white peach, apricot and chamomile, with a saline, chalky lift drawn from the albariza. The palate is bright and dry, with gentle phenolic texture and a long, salty finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white-wine glass. It works with white fish, shellfish, roast chicken and fresh goat cheese.
