A four year Mount Gay drawn entirely from the Coffey still, clean and unsweetened, with vanilla, oak and caramel cut by black pepper and a chocolate-banana lift, bottled at full strength 58%.
Description
Part of Mount Gay's Master Blender Collection, this Coffey Still Expression is a 2019 vintage that isolates the column side of the house rather than the usual pot-and-column blend. Mount Gay is the heritage name of Barbados, and a single-still bottling like this is a chance to taste the lighter, cleaner component on its own, aimed at drinkers who know the modern Bajan profile and want to see how it behaves at proof.
Distilled from molasses on the Coffey still and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it keeps the unsweetened integrity the distillery stands behind. The nose is vanilla, oak and caramel with a floral edge, the palate adds black pepper to that core, and the finish brings milk chocolate, citrus and a peppery close. There is a roasted, chocolate-banana character that occasionally nods toward Jamaica, clean and straightforward rather than layered, a tasty look at the Coffey still that carries its 58% with ease.
