Description
Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895, has bottled Miltonduff as a single malt for generations. Mosstowie was the heavier malt Miltonduff made on its Lomond stills between 1964 and 1981, a separate spirit from the same Speyside distillery. This Connoisseurs Choice 19 Year Old is a 1975 vintage, bottled in 1994.
Nineteen years in ex-Bourbon brought maturity, the low-tannin oak now a frame for baked fruit, light spice and a waxy thread in Mosstowie's weightier make. Moray's cool, humid air kept the exchange slow and even.
At 40% it shows a faint kippery note over the floral, malty body. A 1975 Mosstowie 19.
