Description
From Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh independent founded in 1988, this 9 Year Old is a 2014 vintage from a small parcel of casks, an outturn of 1,375 bottles. Mortlach, the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, runs a 2.81-times distillation and worm-tub condensers that give the heavy, meaty spirit fans call the Beast of Dufftown.
Nine years in ex-Bourbon left the meaty spirit forward, the charred oak filtering the sharpest sulphur while vanillin began leaching from the wood.
At 40% it shows malt, dried fruit and a leathery edge over the meaty Mortlach body. A muscular Speyside malt.
