Description
Van Wees, the Dutch house behind The Ultimate range, released this 7 Year Old, a 2008 vintage from cask 800025, an outturn of 320 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Early at seven years, the American oak gave the robust Mortlach spirit first vanilla and a little coconut from the lactones, the worm-tub weight still dominant.
At 46% it shows fresh fruit, honey and vanilla. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
