Description
From Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895 and a long-standing Mortlach bottler, this 50 Year Old is a 1942 distillation. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.
By fifty years the oily, meaty spirit had reached the edge of its life, savoury depth turned to leather, beeswax and dried fruit, the tannins held short of bitterness.
At 40% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight over the full-bodied base. The meaty Dufftown style.
