Description
From Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895 and a long-standing Mortlach bottler, this 50 Year Old is from a 1936 vintage. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.
Across fifty years heavy evaporation and slow oxidation concentrated the rich, meaty spirit, leather and old-wood depth as the strength drifted lower.
At 40% it shows honey, dried fruit and a leathery depth carried on the heavy Dufftown body. Mortlach at full weight.
