Description
Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, whose deep stocks include some of the oldest Mortlach in existence, selected this 50 Year Old: from a 1936 vintage. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.
Fifty years in ex-Bourbon carried the dense Mortlach spirit to a profound, savoury maturity, long oxidation bringing leather, beeswax, old wood and worn fruit.
At 40% it shows cooked fruit. A Beast of Dufftown.
