Description
Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895 and a long-standing Mortlach bottler, drew this 43 Year Old: a 1936 distillation. Mortlach is the Speyside outlier known as the Beast of Dufftown, its worm tubs and 2.81 distillation building a dense, sulphury, meaty spirit.
Forty-three years in Oloroso drew the dense Mortlach spirit to a profound depth, long oxidation and heavy evaporation over figgy dried fruit, leather and old wood.
At 40% it shows fig, date, leather and dark chocolate over the full-bodied base. A bold, sherried Mortlach.
