Description
From Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895 and a long-standing Mortlach bottler, this 38 Year Old is a 1976 distillation. Mortlach is Speyside's great meaty malt, its 1823 Dufftown stillhouse using worm tubs and a 2.81 distillation that defies the region's lighter norm.
Thirty-eight years in ex-Bourbon carried the muscular Dufftown spirit to a profound, savoury maturity, long oxidation bringing leather, beeswax, old wood and worn fruit.
At 43% it shows chocolate, dried fruit, fresh fruit, honey, malt extract and fresh oak. A Beast of Dufftown.
